Bridgeland in Cypress Hosts Farmers Market, Celebrating 3 Years

Veggies at Farmers Market at Bridgeland in Cypress

If you haven’t visited the Farmers Market at Bridgeland in Cypress TX, make plans to stop by this weekend. August marks the third birthday of the monthly famers market, an all-volunteer and donation supported event hosted by the Bridgeland community.

First held in 2012 as a one-time event, the success of the Farmers Market at Bridgeland led to it becoming a monthly event, held regularly – rain or shine – on the 2nd Sunday of every month throughout the year. This month’s special Farmers Market will be on August 9th from 12:30pm to 3:30pm.

About the Farmers Market at Bridgeland

Farmers Market at Bridgeland

Each month vendors from Harris and surrounding counties bring their fresh, locally-grown produce to the Bridgeland community. Local vendors who make products such as natural soap, lotions, jelly, goat cheese, pickles and pasta gather at the market as well. You might find local honey, free-range eggs, pastured meats, live plants, fresh-pressed olive oils and olive oil products, homemade dog treats, kettle corn popped on site and more, all for sale by area vendors.

Special events are also scheduled during the Farmers Market at Bridgeland. This month you can see a demonstration by PEAS Farm showing you how to make your own pickles.

Eating Locally Grown is Healthier

Most people assume eating locally grown vegetables and fruit is healthier, but do you know why? Studies show many nutrients form as produce ripens naturally and those nutrients begin to diminish when the produce is picked. The sooner you purchase, the more nutrients you gain.

Because it can take weeks for produce to move from the farm to your table, many fruits and vegetables are harvested prematurely. Therefore, some of the nutrients do not have time to form. Plus, commercial produce is often treated to delay ripening and keep the produce looking fresh longer. Read more about why locally grown is healthier.

Find the Farmers Market at Bridgeland in Cypress

The Farmers Market at Bridgeland in Cypress is held monthly in the parking lot adjacent to the Lakeland Activity Center at 16902 Bridgeland Landing. You can find it on Google Maps here. Bring your family and enjoy a few hours of fun talking to area vendors and buying these local products. Support our local food system!

NEW MODELS AND HOMESITES AVALAIBLE IN BRIDGELAND’S LAKELAND HEIGHTS COMMUNITY

Traditional Neighborhood Development Features Historic Architecture, Modern Floor Plans

CYPRESS, TX (April 14, 2015) - Bridgeland is showcasing new models and homesites in Lakeland Heights, a walkable, Traditional Neighborhood Development (TND) where Main Street-style housing blends with shops, parks, restaurants and services, all following guidelines meticulously crafted by architectural powerhouse Looney Ricks Kiss (LRK).

From April 18 to May 3, the public is invited to take part in a ‘Walk-a-bout Spring Home Tour’ in Lakeland Heights. By touring all four models located in the TND section, participants will be entered to win a $2,500 gift card. Additionally, those who purchase during the promotional period can choose one of three incentives from the home builder – no closing costs, a Best Buy gift card or design center upgrades – all of which are valued at $3,500.

Defining elements of Lakeland Heights include its close proximity to Lakeland Village Center, Bridgeland’s first commercial area, rear-access garages and abundant green space. A highlight of the unique community is its half-mile waterway, featuring a landmark bridge, trails, creatively landscaped park space and seating areas.

Starting in the $250s, homes in Lakeland Heights are built by David Weekley Homes and J. Kyle Homes, while the area’s townhouse product is constructed by Perry Homes.

“We envisioned Lakeland Heights as a community where you’d see neighbors greet each other from their front porches and meet up at local parks, and we’ve seen that come to fruition since the neighborhood opened in 2010,” said Peter Houghton, Bridgeland’s vice president of master planned communities. “LRK extensively researched traditional Houston neighborhoods, including The Heights, West University Place, Southampton and Southside Place, for architectural inspiration, allowing us to create something that’s completely new to the Cypress area.”

Planned for 350 homes, Lakeland Heights incorporates Craftsman, English Tudor, Classical and French housing styles to heighten curb appeal. Diverse architectural styling that is historical in appearance is a recognizable feature of TNDs.

“Lakeland Heights appears to have evolved over time,” Houghton said.

Homes’ exterior cladding is made-up of brick, stucco or wood. Set behind the homes, garages are accessed via private rear lanes. Streetlights are reminiscent of those in River Oaks and other historic neighborhoods.

Despite the nostalgic architecture, homes will have the modern features today’s buyers expect, such as high ceilings, large closets, media rooms and state-of-the-art kitchens and bathrooms. Additionally, the townhomes in the TND are a part of a new ‘lock-and-leave program’ that includes all yard work and exterior maintenance, allowing for stress-free upkeep.

Many of the homesites face the waterway or a neighborhood park, and schools, churches and the Lakeland Village Center — a market square with shopping, services and dining — will be within walking distance. Also nearby is the Lakeland Activity Center, with an aquatic complex, tennis courts, boating and a 6,000-square-foot community center.

Gathering spots in Lakeland Heights include Festival Park, with a covered pavilion, and Central Park, which includes two acres of green space, an open play area and a formal garden. The three-acre Rabbit Run has active open space and is across the street from the Lakeland Activity Center.

Why Buying a Home in The Woodlands is a Good Investment

Are you considering buying or building a new home in Liberty Branch at Creekside Park or other neighborhood in The Woodlands TX? If so, you should know that buying a home in The Woodlands can be a great investment for you and your family. Here are a few reasons why:

The Resale Value of Homes in The Woodlands TX

When buying a home in The Woodlands, the resale value may not be something you consider if you plan to live in the home indefinitely.  But often homebuyers want to know if they are making a good financial investment before making a commitment to purchase. If they decide to move after a few years, will they be able to sell their Woodlands home?

The resale value of homes in The Woodlands has historically been higher than that of homes in surrounding areas for multiple reasons, including its popularity. The Woodlands is a true master planned community with all of the amenities homebuyers look for and much more. Virtually everything you could possibly want or need is right within this beautiful upscale community.

For those who like the idea of living in a small town, but also want to live comfortably in close proximity to work and the city, The Woodlands is ideal. Neighborhoods in villages within The Woodlands have a small town feel, yet residents enjoy the modern amenities of an urban city. (Read about the traditional neighborhood design of Liberty Branch in The Woodlands.)

Because The Woodlands meets the different wants and needs of so many people, and is considered a prestigious community, it is a popular place to live. Popularity increases demand; increased demand raises the resale value of homes.

And, with the opening of the new Exxon Mobil campus and numerous corporate offices and businesses moving to area, the demand for housing in The Woodlands continues to grow.

Plus, homes in The Woodlands are well built and maintained, as is the community. The Woodlands’ covenants and Residential Development Standards ensure it, which helps uphold property values.

Houston jobless rate dips to 6.5 percent; adds nearly 98k jobs

Houston jobless rate dips to 6.5 percent; adds nearly 98k jobs
By L.M. Sixel | August 16, 2013 | Updated: August 16, 2013 10:28am

Houston area employers added 97,700 jobs to their payrolls during the past 12 months, the Texas Workforce Commission reported Friday. That represents a 3.6 percent increase between July 2012 and July 2013.

The commission also reported that the local unemployment rate dipped to 6.5 percent for July.

The local jobless rate, which is not adjusted for seasonal factors such as school schedules and holidays which affect retail and hospitality hiring, was 6.7 percent in June.

The statewide data, however, is seasonally adjusted and in Texas, the unemployment rate held steady in July at 6.5 percent.

In Texas, the sector that added the most jobs last month was financial services. The sector, which suffered during the housing and credit collapse during the most recent downturn, appears to be in the recovery mode.

The gain of 9,000 jobs in finance during July was the largest monthly increase since 1998, according to commission records.

It was the sixth monthly gain during the past seven months.

J. Kyle Homes Building in Liberty Branch, The Woodlands

Liberty Branch will be a traditional neighborhood design (TND) development, which is defined as a complete neighborhood built upon traditional town planning principles. A TND includes a range of housing types, a network of well-connected streets, and public spaces within walking distance of schools, places of worship, shopping, dining and recreation. Liberty Branch is within close proximity to Timber Creek K-6 Elementary School, part of the Tomball ISD, and the new Creekside Park Village Center which will provide nearby shopping, dining and neighborhood services for residents of Liberty Branch.

“The opening of model homes in Liberty Branch has been eagerly anticipated,” said Tim Welbes, Co-President of The Woodlands Development Company. “Traditional neighborhood design, with its all-American streetscapes and walkable green spaces, has been extremely popular in The Woodlands’ enclave of East Shore, and we are anxious to introduce Liberty Branch to the Village of Creekside Park. Construction of Creekside Park Village Center should also begin soon, bringing nearby amenities within walking distance of this new, 400-home neighborhood.”

J. Kyle Homes plans to open a sales trailer in July, with one model opening in October. Forty-three single-family homes are planned by J. Kyle, with prices starting in the $400’s. There will be a variety of home styles including Craftsman, Classic American and English Tudor with many optional features such as outdoor kitchens, wet bars, Thermador kitchens, sunken whirlpool tubs and three-car garages.

Kyle Homes. “We have designed a product line that reflects the community’s ambiance but still has all the special features and solid construction buyers expect from J. Kyle Homes.”

Three inventory homes are under construction, with the first, an 1,800-square-foot one-story Tudor design priced in the $230,000s, expected to be complete this month. Plus, J. Kyle Homes has plans for two model homes in Lakeland Heights.

Bridgeland is the third community for J. Kyle Homes, headed by Jason Kyle Hammonds, whose family has been building in the Houston area for 25 years.
